Why Twitter Will Endure

For: The Twitter Skeptic
From: A former Twitter Skeptic

On Twitter, anyone may follow anyone, but there is very little expectation of reciprocity. By carefully curating the people you follow, Twitter becomes an always-on data stream from really bright people in their respective fields, whose tweets are often full of links to incredibly vital, timely information.

  1. Thank you for putting this article up on our blog to read. I have not become a tweeter nor will I buy the new candy hearts to give to my students but I liked a few things he wrote about the benefits of tweeting. I hadn't thought that tweeting is more economical than emailing in that tweeters are "forced into communication with economy and precision with each element freighted with meaning." A summarizer activity I use with my students is to write an email about a character, or event, and so on. Students are used to shortcuts when typing words but I would prefer that they write a tweet using complete words. They would truly be forced to summarize in 140 characters or less. This would help them in writing a main idea, a hook, a theses for example. One of my favorite articles I read this year was "25 ways to use twitter in the classroom." I believe you posted that too. Thanks!
